About Sue Furrow
I have been a painter most of my life, in between raising children and a 9-5 job. I love the process of painting. Squeezing the paint onto my palette. Getting the canvas toned or gessoed. The mixing of colors. The brush skipping colors across the surface. All of it I love. But the light falling across any subject is the real excitement. I love to paint all subjects and I'm not necessarily a narrative painter. If a painting is simply beautiful or happy or conjures up wonderful old memories, that's all the inspiration I need. An artist in Texas, William Herring, sums it up nicely--"Art for Beauty's Sake." I enjoy playing with my art materials, so I experiment a LOT! If you think my work covers a broad spectrum this is the reason. In recent years, I've been enjoying Plein Aire painting and the long walks that usually get me to my subject matter. I've truly enjoyed rediscovering the landscape I scampered through as a teen. My family moved to SW Virginia in the 60's from the Baton Rouge area. This environment was so very different from Louisiana so it was real exciting to go on long hikes. Of course life took over and I didn't get to see much of Mother Nature while working full time. Now I have time to rediscover her with newer, fresher, more appreciative eyes. I intend to spend as much time as possible painting en Plein Aire. I will submit the results here for your perusal. Thank you for stopping in and let me know if you have questions. Sue
